After nearly two decades, the world-famous αmєrícαn sitcom Friends is finally returning to the screens in a special reunion with guest stars — including BTS. What can we expect from Bangtan’s appearance? The Friends: The Reunion director has now revealed what ARMYs will see later this month.
The recently released official Friends: The Reunion teaser revealed that the original cast of Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, and David Schwimmer will all be returning for the special — but they won’t be alone. The reunion will feature one of the largest guest lists ever seen, including Lady Gaga, Malala Yousafzai, David Beckham, Justin Bieber, James Corden, and more. Of course, the most notable guest star for K-Pop fans is none other than BTS.
The BTS members are known to be fans of the αmєrícαn sitcom, and leader RM has repeatedly noted that he learned his impeccable English sкιℓℓs while watching Friends. So naturally, ARMYs were thrilled to hear that BTS would be appearing on Friends: The Reunion.
That said, don’t set your hopes too high. While fans are reeling from theories about BTS’s arrival, director Ben Winston has taken to social media to clarify what to expect.
“I want to manage your expectations on this,” Winston began in response to veteran ARMY translator @modooborahae on Twitter. Despite αѕѕumptions that BTS might play a major role in the episode, the director went on to say that BTS’ appearance in Friends: The Reunion will actually be “a really short moment.”
On top of that, it looks like BTS won’t actually be acting. Instead, Winston said their appearance will be a short interview where the members talk about why they like Friends. “They’re great of course,” Winston made it clear, referring to the BTS members.
Responding to @renkiger, another ARMY on Twitter speculated that BTS’ appearance could be about RM talking about how Friends impacted him and showing the show’s cultural importance on the show. around the world, Ben Winston calls the prediction “Spot on”. He added that while the interview was “great”, it was also “short”.
While many fans expressed their disappointment at Ben Winston’s revelation – especially since BTS was invited as one of the key guest stars for the episode – ARMYs on Twitter thanked Ben. Winston for his honesty and consideration for the fandom.
Given that BTS has talked about Friends before, ARMYs probably won’t expect any new and exciting information from the reunion special. However, that doesn’t detract from BTS’s great opportunity to be a part of one of the most anticipated TV events in US history. Friends: The Reunion is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
