Tiktoker raised £6000k for IVF, and they promise viewers the chance to name their baby
Mark, 39, and Lucy Brown, 40, have been trying to conceive for five years and are willing to “beg, borrow, or steal” another child. After spending around £15,000 on IVF, the Hambleton couple turned to social media in a last-ditch effort to raise funds.
A couple who have had a string of h̾e̾a̾r̾t̾b̾r̾e̾a̾k̾i̾n̾g miscarriages have used TikTok to raise funds for IVF.
“We interviewed people in the hospital, and he said the chances of getting pregnant naturally [are] 1 to 8% — very, very slim,” Mark explained. “So he was like, ‘Well, what do we do now?'” So we said, “OK, we just did it.” Let’s just get started. “After two rounds of IVF, the rest is history.” Mark and Lucy stated that they had had several miscarriages. When Lucy, 41, ℓσѕт her baby for the second time, she and Mark documented the ordeal on TikTok. That post has been viewed nearly 50,000 times. According to the αmєrícαn Society for Reproductive Medicine, the average cost of one in vitro fertilization, or IVF, cycle in the United States is $12,400. The couple spent a total of $20,000 on IVF treatments. However, they paid nothing in the subsequent round.
After their success, they are now offering loyal viewers the opportunity to help name their child. Lucy, a hairdresser, was sterilized after complications during her first pregnancy with their son, Sonny. However, as their son approached adolescence, the couple decided to reverse the procedure and try another child. They’ve had seven h̾e̾a̾r̾t̾b̾r̾e̾a̾k̾i̾n̾g miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy since then.
“We were both down and depressed about the situation,” Mark, who is originally from Merseyside, explained. Going through all of those miscarriages was a nightmare situation for the two of us – each one was a devastating blow.
“Because I already had a following on TikTok from my reviews of supermarket deals and food, it occurred to me to use the platform to try and help us.” “Having another child would be amazing, and we never thought social media would be the way to make it happen.”
Due to TikTok’s creator fund, which pays creators based on the number of views they accumulate, the pair were able to raise a staggering £6000 from views alone.
The couples are now in the egg fertilization stage of IVF, thanks to people watching and sharing Mark’s videos. “No one has given us a penny, but people have given their time and minutes to help us produce another life,” Mark explained.
They’ve decided to keep sharing our journey as they go through the IVF process because it was the views that drew them in. “And to thank everyone who has viewed, we want to allow TikTok users to help us choose the baby’s name,” Mark says. He stated that he will allow TikTok users to choose “within reason,” most likely by giving them a choice of ten names and allowing them to “whíttle it down to one.”
