Alexis LaRue, 22, went viral after sharing a photo of her seven-month-old twins, astonished viewers with their size.
A new mother has spoken out about the strange reception she received after posting a video of herself cuddling her twin daughters on social media. She was accused of overfeeding the twins, who are 21 pounds, and was forced to upload a video of herself weighing them to establish their size. Alexis, from Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Minnesota, weighed 108 pounds (49 kilograms) and stood 5’3″ when she became pregnant, but by 38 weeks, she’d grown to 180 pounds (82kg). Camila arrived at 9:52 a.m., weighing 6 pounds 6 ounces, and Elena arrived one minute later, weighing 6 pounds 7 ounces.
Alexis LaRue was ecstatic to give birth to twin daughters, but she had no idea they’d be the size of toddlers by the time they were seven months old. With TikTok’s growing popularity, many mothers have taken to the app to share what their children look like and what distinguishes them. On the other hand, Alexis LaRue appears to have stood out when she claimed her infants were among the heaviest on the market.
After posting a video on TikTok of herself straining to carry her two children, LaRue went popular, which received over 45 million views and thousands of comments. “Everyone [wants] to know if I’m simply tiny or if my babies are just large…” she captioned the photo. LaRue’s two daughters were more significant than a typical seven-month-old infant, with their heads appearing to be slightly larger than their mother’s.
Alexis was not expecting her newborn girls to grow nearly so enormous, even though her fiancé, Leo Mejia, is taller than her at 5’11”. ‘It’s fairly common in the twin world to expect babies to weigh less than 5 pounds.’ ‘I had already purchased preemie-sized clothing for the twins because I expected them to be quite small,’ she explained. ‘However, the girls went directly into neonatal and had been developing very rapidly since,’ she wrote, referring to them as ‘fast growers.’ They are currently in the 98th percentile for height and dress in 12- to 18-month-old clothing. A seven-month-old girl’s average weight is 16.8 pounds.
She also released a video of Leo holding the babies, in which they appear to be considerably smaller. ‘They don’t believe they’re mine!’ she said. Alexis claimed in a TikTok video about her pregnancy that she had ‘always been incredibly little’ and weighed around 105 lbs. before giving birth to the twins. During her pregnancy, though, Alexis claims she ‘gained 80 pounds’ and ‘grew incredibly huge,’ admitting, ‘I don’t know how I accomplished it, but our boďïệs are incredible.’
While the majority of commenters are complimentary of her videos, a few have been harsh. ‘Some people say things like, “Oh, they’re going to be NFL players,” “they weigh more than you,” or “stop feeding them so much,” but I don’t let it bother me,’ she explained. ‘They’re getting the exact amount of milk they need.’ All that matters is that they are happy and healthy. Some folks have large children!’
